Andreas Therkelsen Christiansen defended his PhD thesis.

On the 8th of December, 2016 philosopher Andreas Therkelsen Christiansen from the philosophy section in the department of media, cognition and communication, successfully defended his PhD thesis ‘The ethics of Synthetic Biology: Respecting Life and Managing Risks’, published earlier this year, at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen.   

In his thesis he analysis and discusses ethical issues in connection with the development of synthetic biology with a  particular focus on various objections to the new biotechnologies and the uncertainty and risk managing related to the new technology of synthetic biology. The main supervisor in working with the project was associate professor Sune Holm (University of Copenhagen).

The moderator of the defence was associate professor Morten Ebbe Juul Nielsen (University of Copenhagen) and the assessment committee which consisted of Professor Nils Holtug (University of Copenhagen), Professor Catriona McKinnon, (University of Reading) and Professor Per Sandin (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences).
