NEW MEDIA CONFERENCE FOCUSES ON CHILDREN AS A TARGET GROUP, CO-CREATORS AND A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION. DR and BUSTER Film Festival organises a major Nordic children’s media conference on 7th of October 2021 with support from the North Vision Foundation and Creative Europe MEDIA. The program is composed based on an ambition to strengthen the Nordic children’s media industry’s interdisciplinary knowledge and thereby inspire even more quality content. In addition to presentations from leading researchers in psychological development, life worlds, media trends and gaming habits, the presentations focus on the practical experiences of professional and talented actors with the young target groups. Among the many speakers are Lead Play designer Petter Karlsson from the Swedish game company Toca Boca and Knut Næsheim, the director behind NRK‘s ​​”Minibarna” series. Maiken Ingvordsen aka. Popsi from the Danish YouTube duo, “Popsi and Krelle”, will talk about how to constantly reinvent yourself to be relevant to its 1,000,000 subscribers on Youtube. The BBC‘s editor Ros Attille will explain the BBC’s pre-school strategies, while LEGO‘s experience designer Jonathan Trier Brikner elaborates on generating play via media worldwide and from Nordisk Film we’re happy to present Dan Pappe Schönemann who will talk about the families’ position in the great “Streaming War”. 09:40 – 10:00 Development of Preschool Children’s Memory. – Trine Sonne, Psychology Postdoc, Aarhus University Children in the early years of their life understand much more than what we typically expect, and memory plays a huge role in their development. Psychology Postdoc Trine Sonne, will provide us with in depth knowledge on the development of the memory of preschool children. 10:00 – 10:20 A Peek into the World of the Target Group. – Rikke Flodin, Senior Consultant, Will & Agency Which worlds are the 10-15 years olds inhabiting? How are their friendships and their relationship to their families? What are their needs, their habits, their interests? Rikke Flodin from consulting firm Will & Agency, operating within the field of design anthropology, presents the main takeaways from their exciting examination of the target group’s lifeworld. 10:25 – 10:45 Coffee Break 10:45 – 11:00 Co-Creation Put on Formula – Anna Damkjær, Project Leader for User Involvement, DR. The co-creation process is investigated through a methodological perspective. How can you systematize your co-creation process and how can you ensure that your data becomes representative and meaningful for your creative process? 11:00 – 11:20 Creation for and with the Toddlers: “Minibarna” – Knut Næsheim, Director, NRK The success of the Norwegian tv-series for the 0-3 years old “Minibarna” sheds light on the importance of doing research on the youngest target group to fit their developmental stages. Knut Næsheim (NRK) tells about the choices that were made during the realisation of the series. 11:20 – 11:35 Child Imagination as an Engine for Development: “Børns Fantastiske Fortællinger” – Kristian Nordentoft, Director Director Kristian Nordentoft will give us an insight into co-creating with the 4-8 years old. In the DR series “Børns fantastiske fortællinger” children are involved as scriptwriters, directors and visual producers. Kristian tells about the complicated exercise of turning kids’ imagination into real stories. 11:35 – 11:50 Vulnerable and Difficult to Reach: “Katastrofer” – Tone Ottilie, Director How to co-create with the 15 years old, when they are also dealing with anxiety and OCD? Director Tone Ottilie offers an exciting example with her film “Katastrofer”. 12.00 – 12:30 Public Service for the New Generations: the Journey of BBC – Ros Attille, Development Executive for Preschool, BBC. With a perspective from English children television, Ros Attille (BBC) sheds light on the journey to bring public service into the new generations. In various examples from BBC’s catalogue of content, she will highlight how they work with themes such as diversity and representation. 12:30 – 13:20 Lunch DR Koncerthuset Restaurant 13.20 – 13:40 The Streaming Generation: Trends in the Media Habits – Katrine Green, Media Researcher, DR. One thing connects toddlers and teenagers: the digital world. The habits of the different age groups are investigated. What does a 1 years old watch? How much time does a 7 years old spend in front of the screen? How often is a 10 or a 15 years old watching flow tv? Katrine Green shows us the main trends of the young audience’s digital world. 13.40 – 14:00 Streaming Wars: How to Win the Family Audiences – Dan Pappe Schönemann, Nordic Consumer Insight Consultant, Nordisk Film. Why are all streaming services fighting to win families as their subscribers and what are the families attracted to? These are some of the questions Dan Pappe Schönemann, Nordisk Film, will help answer from a commercial perspective on the Scandinavian audiovisual market. 14.00 – 14:20 Gaming Routine: The Target Group and their playing habits – Stine Liv Johansen, Chairman for Media Council for children and youth, Why do kids play, and what do their digital gaming habits really look like? The diversity of the gaming landscape is explored by Stine Liv Johansen, chairman of the Danish Media Council for Children and Youth, with insights from the latest report on children aged 1-15 years and their playing habits. 14:30 – 14:50 How to Create a YouTube Phenomenon: Popsi og Krelle – Maiken Ingvordsen, Joint CEO of POK Aps, Artist and creative entrepreneur The duo “Popsi and Krelle” are both on the go in kindergartens, shopping centers, and for city parties across the country – and on the digital platform where the youngest unconditionally spend the most of their time: YouTube. On their channel they have more than 100 million views. The duo share their experiences of reaching the target group and their thoughts on the future of Danish children’s culture in a stream of online content. 14:55 – 15:15 Break 15:15 – 15:35 Challenges and Opportunities for the Gaming Industry – Jeppe Kønig, Founder (Consultant), Jay Bird Games The latest developments and tendencies in the children’s games market are explored through the lens of the brand new research conducted by DFI and the Danish Producers Association “Kids Games in the Scandinavian Market”. 15:35 – 16:05 How to Create Stories that Make You Play: Lego Experiences – Jonathan Trier Brikner, Experience Designer, LEGO How do you combine play with building universes? LEGO will tell how they work to extend the play experience into all their content, so that the children with their content get an overall experience.
